Using Microsoft  Word forms

Along with the many web pages in this site, several Microsoft Word files are stored here for you to download and use. Some of these are simple text files for you to read, while others are more sophisticated documents that allow you to interact with them, by typing directly into them.

Downloading Word files

Here is an example of how to save a downloadable Word file to your hard disk.

  • First we have to get to the file by left-clicking once on the hot-link (which is shown in blue letters here)

  • This takes us straight to the file as shown here

The next stage is identical to that shown in "Organizing your written work into Files and Folders" where we outline different methods of saving files. We'll repeat it here with this example for convenience, but only using one save method.

  • Place your mouse pointer over "File" and click once
  • Then select "Save As"

You can see that we have already created a sub-folder within the "My Documents" folder called "Webdownload" for storing documents from the Internet.

  • To put the new file in there left-double-click on the folder to open it, then give your file a descriptive name by typing in the filename field

  • Finally, click on "Save" and you have successfully stored the file on your own hard disk in order to work on it.

Using Microsoft Word forms

A Microsoft Word form is a text file created in Microsoft Word that has been partially protected so that parts of the document can be written on, while other parts cannot. We have used them in the Turbocharger to create worksheets for you to use. These forms can be filled in online and exchanged via e-mail, or you can print off hard copies.

  • Use the same procedure as above to download and save the Word form before you start to fill it in.
  • Once you have done this you should follow the instructions on the form to fill it out.
  • Often, you type your comments in the grey text boxes.
  • To do this, click on the box and when it turns black enter text just as in any Word document.
  • As an alternative, you can always print off a hard copy of the form to fill out by hand
