Eudora Light

The IBM ThinkPads supplied through the University are pre-installed with the Microsoft Outlook e-mail application. Although Microsoft Outlook is an acceptable e-mail application, users of other applications often experience difficulties when they receive e-mails sent from it. The Turbocharger therefore recommends that you use Eudora Light. Eudora Light is a free product that is widely used. It is simple to use, compatible with most other applications and handles file attachments well.

The Writing Turbocharger gives step-by-step instructions on using Eudora Light to form an email discussion group and to send file attachments.

You can download Eudora Light from the Eudora site by clicking on the icon below.

If you do not know how to download and install software on your computer, we advise you to ask a more experienced user to help you.

Once you have installed Eudora Light, you will need to set it up to receive your mail from the University.

  • To do this, select Options from the Tools menu.

  • Under POP account, type in your own email address. Replace "astudent" with your own email name (or number).
  • Under SMTP type:  mail.hku.hk
  • You can leave the other boxes blank.
