The  Medical Terminology website of the English Centre is designed primarily for students majoring in Chinese medicine, dentistry, medicine, and nursing. The pages show a selected list of the frequently found terms that students may encounter in their readings and lectures. The lists and exercises are not meant to be comprehensive. The purpose of this website is to help students recognize technical terms and later actively use this vocabulary. The following guidelines give more details about the content.

  • Suffixes ... are added to the end of a word to form another word.   
  • Word part lists ... show common medical prefixes and suffixes for your reference
  Self assessment tasks ... are provided for you to improve your recognition of medical prefixes, suffixes and word roots.
Pronunciation ... includes the sounds of medical terms you can hear at a click.
Glossary, a search engine, ... enables searches by whole word, prefix, root or suffix. You can see the meaning of the word and its phonetic transcription as well as hear the pronunciation
